About the event
SOLD OUT. Spend a week in Provence with us enjoying delicious meals, strolling through market and quaint villages, visiting historical and art tours led by professional guides, exploring Roman ruins and much more.
We'll walk to and over the Pont Du Gard using an ancient path known only to the locals, followed by a traditional Provencal lunch overlooking the river and the aqueduct towering above us.
Close to Vers Pont du Gard is the medieval town of Uzes, a lively town filled with cafés, artists, cathedrals, gardens, shops and winding alleys around a large center square, Place Aux Herbes. We'll browse the huge Wednesday market and bring home the ingredients for a late summer Provençal dinner under the pergola and spend another afternoon in Uzes dining on freshly shucked oysters and champagne at an outdoor bar. If we're lucky there will be a brocante sale or art exhibit going on.
A private guide, Ann, an expert on Van Gogh, will give us a private tour of the psychiatric hospital in St Remy where he spent a year convalescing. Another day a guide will take us through the Popes Palace in Avignon and tell us the incredible stories there. We'll enjoy lunch at local restaurants both days.
We can't miss Nimes either. It's a walled city filled with huge promenades, a Roman colosseum, decadent chocolate stores, public gardens and outdoor cafés. I'll try to line up a guide for a tour there too.
Another day we'll drive to Chateau Neuf Du Pape and visit a winery, chocolate makers and have lunch at a chateau on the veranda overlooking the rolling vineyards. Nearby are other picturesque villages we may visit during the week including L'Isle Sur La Sorgue (filled with antique stores along the canal!!), Orange with its Roman amphitheater and the original Arc De Triomphe built 2000 years ago and Roussillon, Arles and Bonnieux.
Close to our house are many olive groves, vineyards and lavender fields. We'll go wine and olive oil tasting at Panery and if our friends Allison and Costas are not busy with guests in their home, Chateau St Victor La Coste, we'll drop by and see the jaw dropping pool and setting.
The dates for Provence are Sept 6 through 13. The cost is $3400 pp. This covers all breakfasts and dinners, at least 3 lunches, all entrance fees to activities, and 7 nights in a beautiful 18th century manor house. It does not include airfare or ground transportation, and you will need to rent a car.
REFUND POLICY: All ticket sales are final. There are no refunds. If you cannot make the trip, you may sell the tickets to another person with prior approval and if there is a waiting list I will let you know.
